Surface Design Show 2018 will begin with its ever popular Opening Night Live Debate
A crisis for the next generation – is London just for the wealthy?
NLA and RIBA host the Surface Design Show’s Opening Night Live Debate to discuss these issues, bringing together housing experts with young architects to discuss what London needs in order to attract and retain the younger population.
“We overlook the views of young people, that is those from 18-25 who see the future ahead of them and question what is in it for them. They need housing options that are affordable, accessible and sustainable. The lack of social housing, low cost housing and key worker housing; poor quality housing in the private rented sector; prices being out of reach in the purpose built private rented sector and no chance of getting onto the property ladder. If these problems are not addressed, more young people will have no choice but to leave London for more affordable cities.”
